My practice is rooted in painting, though I resist being confined by it. The studio is a space of

constant exploration into different media, tools, and the possibilities that emerge when materials

and ideas meet.

At the core of my work is mark making: gestural, deliberate, and exploratory. Each painting is

less a predetermined image than a process unfolding in real time. I listen to what the work asks of me and respond, allowing pieces within a series to speak to one another and build a shared

language.

To keep exploration from becoming chaos, I impose rules. Each body of work carries its own

constraints, creating tension between freedom and discipline. These limits are not restrictions so

much as focus, a way of pushing deeper into a question before moving on.

Making is something I cannot help. It is a compulsion, a need to transform what I absorb from

the world into something tangible. The studio is where I find solitude in a world of constant

noise. It is how I process experiences and how I make sense of things. The work is not separate

from that. It is the thinking itself, made visible.

About The Show “Reflections”:

Reflections is a look back. Seven years of work, laid out not as a retrospective but as a

conversation with time.

The title carries more than one meaning. There is the act of looking back personally, watching

ideas grow, shift, and sharpen over years of making. And there is the reflection that happens in

the studio every day, the ongoing dialogue between paint, canvas, and self. Some works in the

show take that idea further, becoming reflections of themselves, the process turning back on its

own image.

This is what the work has always been about. A conversation. With the materials, with the

series, with time.

George Chiavelli is an artist with over 17 years of experience who discovered his true calling at

the age of 19. From that moment, painting spoke to him in a way nothing else had, and he has

been deeply committed to his studio practice ever since. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Studio

Art from William Paterson University and has exhibited his work across Northern New Jersey

and New York over the past decade. Now, George invites you into his most personal

presentation yet his first solo show, Reflections

Artist Statement: "My  ceramic creations are based on form and texture, allowing the material  (clay) to speak for itself and influenced by South Western and Asian  aesthetics (Less is More). My paintings are based on the interplay of  colors and composition. There are no preconceived expectations, it just  has to feel right.
