"My name is Benjamin Janis.  I am 13 years old and live in Rockaway, NJ. I have always loved nature and my favorite photos are usually of water including the ocean. My photos have been on display in the Roxbury and Whippany libraries. I am a 4-H member and in clubs including Shutterbugs Photography, Teen Council and the STEM Science Club.  This photo was taken on a Shutterbugs photo walk.

"My photography, wherever it is taken, starts with what will be seen first. The bigger picture. As someone views the photo more closely then before they may notice more details then there are initially thought to be. As my skill in photography evolved, so have the ways I took my photos. It's safe to say that I have grown a lot in my photography and I hope to continue taking more photos all around New Jersey. "

I took this photograph of a Great Blue Skimmer at the Great Swamp Observation Center.  At the time, New Jersey was in a period of unusual dryness.  Not many animals were about, besides this lone dragonfly. On that hot day, this photo was a reward for stepping out of the shade.

BIO - Karcsi George Piedl

My name is Karcsi George Piedl and I am 15 years old. I live in Morris County, New Jersey. For most of my education until high school, I was home schooled and was able to go outside and be in nature at any time.  I enjoy taking photos outdoors, but I specialize in Avian photography. I am a member of the 4H club, Shutterbugs, and I have showcased my artwork at several libraries around the county. This photo of Libellula vibrans was taken in the Great Swamp, which is a large wetland encompassing two watersheds.

I was inspired to create this piece because of the wide range of wildlife that is native to the New York area. I am from New Jersey and wanted to look at animals that were not typically seen in my area. I chose to do a moose specifically because I wanted to show their large presence within the Upstate New York area. I also find it interesting how large they are, and wanted to capture that in my piece. I used pastel pencils to create the moose and used acrylic for the background.

I took this photograph on Patriot's Path near Speedwell in Morristown.  I enjoy biking and kayaking there.  On this particular  occasion, our 4-H Shutterbugs club met on the path for an evening photo  walk.
